Unlocking your Mobile Phone
For the SaverSIM and the SaverSIM REACH to work you MUST have an unlocked phone that is not restricted to one network or country.
SIM locking explained.
The Service Provider Lock — This is by far the commonest kind of mobile phone lock and it restricts the use of the phone to working with those SIM cards provided by the service provider with whom you took the contract out with – i.e. Vodafone, Orange, Pannon, T-Mobile, etc.
SIM Unlocking by Network Providers
The laws on SIM locking vary by country. Belgium, for example, does not allow any network to sell locked handsets and the same is true for Hong Kong (with the exception of PDA phones such as the BlackBerry). In the Netherlands service providers must provide unlocking codes, but are allowed to charge a fee within the first 12 months after the purchase of the phone. Thereafter the unlocking code is free. In the UK service providers are required to unlock a mobile phone if requested to do so. But they are allowed to charge a fee for this service. Contact your mobile operator and ask them in the first instance – they may be able to unlock your phone for free or for a small charge very quickly!
The Unlocking Process
If you do this via a mobile operator it is normally instant and involves no action on your behalf. In most countries you can also visit a telecom shop and they will do it for you. In addition there a number of sites who will do it for you if you enter the details of the phone.
